Late summer and an elusive golden moment on the north-facing Norfolk saltmarsh. Plants are caught in the backlit sunlight: common cordgrass, Sporobolus anglicus, rayless sea aster, Aster tripolium var discoideus, shrubby sea-blite, Suaeda vera. The cordgrass is non-native, introduced originally as control for coastal erosion. The plant has now colonised areas of tidal mudflats in the UK although natural dieback has lessened its invasive nature.
This series is an attempt to inspire the love and awe the fragile ecosystem of the saltmarsh deserves, and to encourage action to prevent its unnecessary destruction.
